This Weekend: Red Bull Spiked - ATL
Red Bull Spiked is a beach volleyball tournament that features 16 teams, who battle it out for the chance to play against world champions Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser.
Co-ed beach volleyball teams are competing across the southeast in hopes to qualify for the finals of Red Bull Spiked hosted at Piedmont Park on September 25th where they come face to face with Olympic gold medalists, Todd Rogers and Phil Dalhausser. The twist on this game is that the teams taking on the dynamic duo will be comprised of two men and two women – two verses four. On paper the advantage goes to the larger team, but in reality…well, we’ll just have to wait until the finals.
The 14 teams will take to the sand courts in the Active Oval at Piedmont Park in a round robin format competition until there are only two left standing. In the finals each of the top two seeds will take on the most decorated US men’s beach volleyball team – Rogers and Dalhausser – to be named champion of Red Bull Spiked.

The Man Who Ate New Orleans
A friend of mine, Michael Dunaway from Paste Magazine, told me about a film that he's directing. What he shared with me was very interesting and I thought you might like it as well.
The film is about a New Jersey pastor who moved his family to New Orleans AFTER Katrina to help rebuild, fell in love with the culture, and decided to become the first person in history to eat at all 603 restaurants in the city. But on a deeper level? It’s about the two most beautiful aspects of New Orleans — celebration and community — and how they play out through the city’s music, food, and rebuilding.
The film’s proceeds will go to the New Orleans Rebuilding Fund of Redeemer Presbyterian Church and to one additional charity each from the music, food, and rebuilding areas.

Changing Lanes Promo Vid
As of September 1st, the sport of racing will never be the same again. Revolution Racing, a team that is part of NASCAR's Drive For Diversity Program, provides a behind the scenes experience into the world of racing from a non-traditional point of view. Women and minorities which have typically been under represented will be training for a chance to compete on a national stage and help change the face of the sport. BET will be airing the docu-series in a attempt to bring it's audience into the world of NASCAR. I'm excited to see how this will turn out. Max Siegel and the guys at Revolution Racing have been working hard on this much need project for close to a year. Here's a trailer for the upcoming series. Shout out to Brandon Thompson as well!

Ciroc celebrates Atlanta movers and shakers
An evening filled with purposeful networking [and of course Ciroc] commenced as the Diddy driven brand recognized a few of the city's brightest with a fashionable reception in downtown Atlanta on June 29, 2010. The evening's ambassadors, nightlife connoisseur, Yaw Botchey (Certified Ent.) and respected publicist/event planner Nicole Garner (The Garner Circle) welcomed guests to dine and build business relationships. Professionals across a variety of industries from marketing and advertising to gaming and dentistry mixed and mingled.
The accomplishments of Tharon Johnson (Senior Advisor to Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed), Isoul Harris (Atlanta Editor-in-Chief for 944 magazine) and Steve Canal (Director of Business Development for Miller-Coors) were highlighted and reminded us that with all of the hard work we do daily, it is nice when others notice. Blue Flame Marketing/Ciroc rep Claribel Almonte has always been one to laud the performance of her peers and now has an initiative that supports her efforts to support those who affect positive change on their respective spheres of influence.
Ciroc presents Executive Dine & Toast will be a quarterly event honoring 20 - 30 somethings who help shape the city in which they reside and their perspective industries on a national landscape.

Def Jam Atlanta Office Opening
Def Jam's branch is officially open to the Atlanta music community. The satellite office of the iconic label held a reception to allow industry professionals to preview the summer heat their artists were cooking up. Juelz Santana, Rocko, Lil' Ru, Cyhi Da Prynce and Bryan J were some of the artists that were on hand for the private event as I got a chance to provide the soundtrack. What does this mean for the legendary label? Will its resurgence begin with a spark from it's Atlanta bureau? Only time will tell, but it's good to know that the label supports the community and understands that it needs the community's support in order to repeat some of its previous success. I look forward to a number of new developments from Def Jam as Atlanta continues to prove that there's more down here than just snap music. Thanks to the entire staff -- KP, Bu, Dina, T-mah, Regina, Latoya and everyone else that I'm forgetting. Here are a few pics, you can check out the rest at ATL PICS. Thanks Prince!

Akon Birthday Party in Atlanta
Akon celebrated his birthday Middle Eastern style with the Konvict family and friends at the plush Dreamland Mansion in Atlanta, Georgia this weekend. In attendance were Devyne Stephens (Upfront Megatainment), Chaka Zulu (Disturbing Tha Peace Records), Bu Thiam and Fotemah (Konvict Muzik).
